Udupi, Feb 1: Eminent scholar Dr Jayaprakash Mavinakuli took the mantle of the post of principal of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College here on Wednesday January 31.
The post was handed over to Dr Mavinakuli at a farewell programme for outgoing principal Prof M L Samaga.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mavinakuli expressed his happiness and pride in taking over the responsibility.
The move is especially significant in view of the imminent autonomous status to the college from the government from the next academic year.
Dr Mavinakuli is a well-known researcher and dramatist who has had long years of experience in the teaching profession. He has also held several posts in Mangalore University and had been the president of AMUCT.
