Maruti Suzuki's diesel cars sales decline


Gurgaon, March 3 (IANS): Sale of Maruti Suzuki diesel cars went down by over 6 percent in February as compared to the same period last year, an official said on Tuesday.

Maruti sold 118,551 cars in the last month in total as compared to 109,104 in February 2014, a company spokesperson said here.

Cars run on petrol and CNG fuels recorded high sale.

Maruti Suzuki's figures show that it sold 42,778 diesel cars in February this year compared to 45,721 diesel cars in the same period last year.

There was decline in sales by 6.4 percent.

The company sold a total 457,289 units of Swift, Ritz, Dzire and Celerio till now in this fiscal year, while it sold 396,130 units of the same models in 2013-14. The sales increased by 15.4 percent.

The sale of cars like Alto and WagonR increased by 7.1 percent last month. It sold 39,988 cars in February as compared to 37,342 during the same period last year.

A senior executive of the company told IANS that demand for diesel cars has decreased, while demand for petrol and CNG cars has increased due to change in prices of fuels in the international market.
