Helpline launched in Uttar Pradesh to check crime on trains

Lucknow, March 4 (IANS): A new helpline has been launched by Uttar Pradesh Police to check crimes on trains passing through the state, an official said on Wednesday.

The four digit helpline 1512 can be reached by a passenger from his mobile phone after which he is automatically connected to the Government Railway Police (GRP) control room in the state capital.

Guards aboard the train would be alerted through wireless systems subsequently to take necessary action, a GRP official said.

The helpline service would include complaints about crimes (sexual harassment, murder, poisoning, loot, dacoity, pickpocketing and brawls) committed on trains, at railway stations and railway premises.
