Moodbidri, Feb 3: In a daylight theft at Mooruru near here thieves have decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 4.5 lac from an advocate's house on Friday February 2 morning.
The theft is said to have taken place between 9 and 11 am on Friday in advocate Amarendra Shetty's house. There was no one in the house at the time of theft.
Amarendra Shetty who is an advocate along with his family members had gone to the inaugurations of his sister Shilpashree's office. The theft came to light after 11 am when Amarendra's father came home.
The thieves had gained entry into the house after breaking open the main doors. The entire house was ransacked. Gold ornaments from two cupboards in the bedroom were stolen. A total of 107 sovereigns of gold has been stolen.
The sources said that Amarendra Shetty hails from Hosangadi royal family and therefore the ornaments were of more value than estimated right now. The police said that the value of the stolen ornaments may be still higher considering that they belonged to royal dynasty.
The thieves after the theft have fled from the woods behind the house. Sniffer dogs from Mangalore and finger print experts have been summoned to the spot. SP Dayananda, DySP Pitambar Heraje, SI Umapathi have already visited the place.
