Two policemen killed in insider attack in Afghanistan


Kabul, March 5 (IANS): Two policemen were killed in an insider attack in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan on Thursday, media reported.

"Three personnel of local police opened fire at their colleagues at a checkpoint in Sarsini Kotal area of Charchino district at around 6 a.m. today (Thursday) and, after killing two of the personnel, made good their escape and joined anti-government militants," Nematullah Roshan, deputy to the district police chief, told Xinhua news agency.

Roshan added that an investigation has been initiated into the case.

Insider attacks, conducted by Taliban loyalists who have penetrated security forces, have claimed several lives in the past few years.
