Dhaka, Mar 6 (IANS): Bangladeshi authorities have recovered 170 gold bars, weighing 27 kg, from a North Korean diplomat at the Shahjalal International Airport here, according to media reports on Friday.
The gold was recovered on Thursday from the hand baggage of Son Yung Nam, the first secretary of the North Korean embassy in Bangladesh, bdnews24.com reported.
Kazi Mohammad Zia Uddin, joint commissioner at the customs department confirmed the recovery of the gold bars.
He said that the diplomat returned to Dhaka on board a Singapore Airlines flight around 10.30 p.m.
The customs official added that the North Korean diplomat claimed to have returned from an official tour to Singapore, but could not produce relevant documents or proof.
