Naturopathy treatment for Kerjiwal's cough begins

Bengaluru, March 7 (IANS): Naturopathy treatment for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's chronic cough began here Friday, a day after he got admitted into a private hospital on the city's outskirts.

As Kejriwal is diabetic, he was also served bitter gourd juice and sprouted fenugreek seeds juice during daytime.

"We have begun treating Kejriwal after conducting the required tests for his chronic cough and high blood sugar level as he is diabetic," a doctor at the Jindal Naturcure Institute told IANS.

As per the strict regime followed at the institute, Kejriwal woke up at 5 a.m. and had undergone detoxification therapy, followed by yogic exercises, acupressure and other therapies such as mud therapy, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy.

"No medicines are given. Kejriwal is allowed to take insulin to keep his blood sugar level under control as he is diabetic," the doctor said but declined to give more detail as he is not authorised to speak to media.

The 46-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener has been prescribed menu consisting of fresh juices, boiled vegetables, chapathis, sprouts and soup for breakfast, lunch and supper at specific timings and retired to bed early (10pm.)

"The treatment will be the same as naturopathy involves removing toxins from his body to rejuvenate and restore normal health," the doctor said.

A team of doctors monitoring Kejriwal's health condition will, however, decide on specific treatment to cure his dry cough based on test results and his body's response to the detoxification therapy.

Kejriwal is staying with his parents -- Gobind Ram and Gita Devi -- in a two-room cottage in the sprawling institute on the city's outskirts.
