Seven killed in bus-train collision near Cairo

Cairo, March 7 (IANS): A collision between a train and a school bus near Egypt's capital killed seven people and injured 24 more others, state-run MENA news agency reported.

The accident took place on Friday when a train crashed a school bus carrying children near Egypt-Ismailia desert highway, some 50 kilometers northeast of Cairo.

The bus was hit by a cargo train while crossing the railway tracks, state-run Ahram online website reported.

Some of the victims were children, according to Ahram online.

Dozens of Egyptians, mostly children, were killed in the recent three years in vehicle-train accidents.

Experts blame lack of maintenance and the poor condition of the railway network for the frequent accidents.
