Kathmandu, March 7 (IANS): After being stuck in a grassy shoulder for more than 72 hours in the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Nepal's capital Kathmandu, a passenger jet of Turkish Airlines was finally moved to the runway on Saturday morning.

The Airbus A-330 that skidded off the runway on Wednesday morning has been removed from the grass area in the second attempt after damaged wheels were replaced with the help of an Indian removal kit, Xinhua reported.

At a press conference organized in TIA premise in the morning, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Director General Ratish Chandra Lal Suman said, "With the help of 12 technicians from India, the Nepal Army, the Nepal Police and other professionals, we have been finally able to pull the aircraft into the main runway."

The distance between the runway and grassy shoulder where the front landing gear of aircraft collapsed and the plane nose-dived was around 150 metres.

CAAN stated that measures were underway to move the aircraft some 700 metres away from the main runway to a secured parking area by Saturday afternoon.

Following the clearance of runway, CAAN has informed that international flights were likely to resume from 2 p.m. time on Saturday.
