December 16 documentary: Bar Council notice to lawyers

New Delhi, March 7 (IANS): The Bar Council of India (BCI) on Saturday issued notice to two defence advocates for their controversial remarks in the BBC documentary on the December 16, 2012 gang rape.

BCI chairman Manan Mishra said the council issued notice to defence counsel M.L. Sharma and A.P. Singh, who made several controversial statements in the documentary.

The BCI had also issued notice to A.P. Singh over his remarks on the rape victim in September 2013, which is still pending.

The BBC documentary is about the gang rape of a 23-year-old trainee physiotherapist, who was brutally assaulted on December 16, 2012 in a moving bus in Delhi.

Severely injured in the brutal assault, the woman was shifted for specialised treatment to a Singapore hospital where she died on December 29, 2012.
