Man dies at Chandigarh bus stop with Rs.16 lakh strapped to body

Chandigarh, March 7 (IANS): A Chandigarh-based property dealer died at a bus stop here under mysterious circumstances on Saturday with Rs.16 lakh in cash strapped to his body.

Police said the deceased -- identified as 57-year-old Nar Singh Bedi -- was standing at the bus stop near Sector 29 to catch a bus for Delhi.

He collapsed suddenly after which people at the bus stop called the police control room.

The man was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 where doctors declared him dead.

Police found Rs.16 lakh in cash strapped to his body.

"He could be taking such a huge amount for some property deal in Delhi. We are investigating the case," a police officer said.

Police have ruled out foul play saying there were no injury marks on the body. Officials said it did not appear that any vehicle had hit him either.

"A post-mortem examination of his body will reveal the cause of his death," a police official said.

The deceased was a resident of Sector 47.
