Maoist killed in Odisha gunfight


Bhubaneswar, March 8 (IANS): One Maoist was killed in a gunfight with security forces in a forested area of Odisha's Kalahandi district on Sunday, police said.

The exchange of fire took place in Golamunda police station area, around 500 kms from state capital Bhubaneswar, after the rebels opened fire at a police team engaged in anti-Maoist operations.

The police retaliated and one rebel was killed in the exchange of fire, Inspector General of Police (south-western range) Yashwant Jethwa told IANS.

"The body of the Maoist and a rifle was recovered from the site. Anti- Maoist operations have been intensified in the area after the incident," he said.
