Attack on UN camp in Mali condemned

United Nations, March 9 (IANS): UN Secretary-General Ban Ki moon has condemned a terrorist attack on a UN peacekeeping camp in Mali.

At least three people were killed and 14 injured in mortar and rocket fire attack that took place on Sunday in a UN camp in Kidal, a desert town in northern Mali, Xinhua reported on Monday.

"The secretary general condemns in the strongest terms today's attack in Mali that killed two Malian children and a Chadian UN peacekeeper and injured 11 peacekeepers and three civilians," a UN statement said.

"The killing of UN peacekeepers and civilians is intolerable and a breach of international humanitarian law."

The UN Security Council has called on the Malian government to swiftly investigate this attack and bring the perpetrators to justice, the statement added.

On Saturday, a restaurant in Mali's capital Bamako was attacked, resulting in the deaths of five people, including a French citizen and a Belgian security officer.
