Puttur, Feb 5: Despite heavy security and presence of police, tension still prevails in and around the town after riots caused havoc on Saturday February 3 night.  Shri Ram Sene has given a call for day-long bundh complaining of interference of police in the religious function.

As reported earlier Shri Ram Sene had organized the installation of Shri Shaineshwara deity in front of the Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple here.  They had also planned for a procession after the food in the night.  However, police objected for this, since they were neither informed about it nor anyone had sought permission for the same.  But the devotees gathered there refused to listen to police and proceeded with their procession.  Having no other way, the police got into action and caned a few and also burst tear gas.

The police have already arrested 33 persons in this regard.  However, the top leaders who had once again failed in convincing their followers have been absconding eversince.  Arun Kumar Puttila, Pramod Mutalki, Prasad Attavar and others are still at large.

Meanwhile police have seized several two-wheelers and four-wheelers from the spot.  These vehicles are now in the police station compound.  This time around, police are of the opinion that they would abide by the law despite pressure from anyone.
