Railway revenue up 13 percent in April-February


New Delhi, March 9 (IANS): The earnings of Indian Railways from April 1, 2014 to February 28, 2015 were Rs.142,358.27 crore, a 12.93 percent rise from 2013-14, the government said Monday.

The total freight income went up to Rs.96,613.19 crore during the period under review from Rs.85,666.65 crore in the corresponding period last year -- a 12.78 percent increase.

Passenger revenue was Rs.38,726.74 crore, up from Rs.33,755.50 crore -- a rise of 14.73 percent.

The total passengers booked during the period under review was 7,546.49 million, compared to 7,709.62 million during the same period last year -- a decrease of 2.12 percent.
