Tibetans protest outside Chinese embassy

New Delhi, March 10 (IANS): Over a hundred Tibetan refugees staged a protest here on Tuesday outside the Chinese embassy on the Tibetan Uprising Day.

Holding Tibetan flags, posters and banners with "Free Tibet" written on them, the protestors gathered on the sprawling lawns outside the embassy and raised pro-freedom slogans.

Some of the protestors were wearing black masks and others painted the Tibetan flag on their cheeks.

Delhi Police later detained all the protestors while some were dragged and bundled into buses to take them to police station.

"A total of 112 protestors, including 44 women, were detained and taken to different police stations. They may be released by the evening," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Jatin Narwal told IANS.

Narwal said some of the protestors pricked the policemen with pins and they may be booked.

"Before taking any action against the protestors we are waiting for the medical report of the affected policemen," Narwal said.

"Now, the situation is under control. We have deployed additional force on the roads leading to the Chinese embassy to stop any other Tibetans from marching there," he said.
