Centre proposes investigative units for crime against women


New Delhi, March 11 (IANS): The central government has proposed to states the setting up of investigative units for crime against women (IUCAWs) on a 50:50 cost sharing basis.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha that policing was a state subject and the states have been given the liberty to choose appropriate location for setting up of IUCAWs.

He said the move to set up IUCAWs was aimed at augmenting the capacity of states in investigation of heinous crimes against women.
