Karbi, Muslim militants nabbed in Assam


Guwahati, March 11 (IANS): Security forces engaged in counter-insurgency operations on Wednesday arrested three Karbi militants, a Muslim militant and two linkmen of a Karbi insurgent outfit, the army said.

Two cadres of the Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tigers (KPLT) were arrested from Umlapher area in Hamren subdivision in Karbi Anglong district, the army said in a statement.

Two linkmen of the KPLT were arrested from another village later.

A 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades and some incriminatory documents were seized from the militants.

A joint team of the army and police also nabbed a militant of the Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) from his residence in Dhubri district on Wednesday, the army statement said.

Security forces have so far arrested over 200 cadres of the National Democratic front of Bodoland (NDFB) since the December 23, 2014 massacre that left over 70 people dead in Kokrajhar, Udalguri and Sonitpur districts.
