Pakistan court says Lakhvi's detention illegal; orders his release

Islamabad, Mar 13 (IANS): The Islamabad High Court on Friday declared the detention orders of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attack, as illegal and ordered his immediate release, a media report said.

Justice Noorul Haq accepted Lahvi's appeal filed against his third time detention orders and ordered his release, Dawn online reported.

Lakhvi, along with six other suspects, was in detention since February 2009. He is accused of being the mastermind of the November 2008 Mumbai attack in which 166 people were killed.

The Pakistani government took Lakhvi and other suspects into custody in February 2009 over charges of "facilitating" the attack. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Lakhvi and the six other alleged abettors in 2009, the report added.

India and some other countries took strong exception to granting bail to Lakhvi, only a couple of days after the December 16 terrorist attack on Army Public School, Peshawar last year.

The Islamabad High Court on December 29 suspended the detention order, but the Supreme Court on January 7 restored Lakhvi's detention.

The six other men facing trial in Adiala Jail for their alleged involvement are: Hammad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jamil Riaz, Younas Anjum, Jamil Ahmed, Mazhar Iqbal and Abdul Majid.

At the time of the attack, Lakhvi was believed to be the operational head of the banned Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) that has been accused by India of carrying out the attack in India's financial capital.

Guys don't get frustrated at him being released because no one other than Pakistan knows whether he was in the detention in the first place. So the question of releasing arises only if he was in the jail. I don't know what it takes for them to understand the damage it may cause to World at large. I think US should stop all aid to them with immediate effect.

    Modi,

Send a drone and kill him(Lakhvi)....end of the story...

If Paki's think they have atom bomb so do we....US will jam Paki nuclear system moment drone kills Lakhvi for it's own security...

No use sending Foreign Secretary to Pakistan for talking...send drones...if we don't have drones then send Air force planes...if we don't use our Air Force now...why we need an Air force???

hey... some how even I feel connecting these 2 subjects. Yesterday I was hearing a debate in Times Now, BJP has gone crazy justifying the J&K Separatist Nasrat Alam. How could they do that. They are supposed to be the strong supporters of Nationalism and Hinduism. Now their own Govt ( alliance ) releasing the separatists and tomorrow terrorists... not acceptable. Modi has to accept the blame unless he condemns and take appropriate actions to stop these. Or else , a pure follower of Modi for his Nationalism will loose faith and trust from Modi as well as BJP.

    Abdul,

there are some groups which will always cry whenever the accused/terrorist arrested & says that they are innocent people. they try to put pressure on the govt/police dept to release them. first we should be careful about these people. then the punishment for the terrorist/antinationals is very easy.

No...this is not that case. This is purely for BJP's political gain, sacrificed the national interest and compromised with the national security. BJP is a power greedy party and they are ready to any extent to grab the power.

Their actions, whatever they have done in these 9 months is having opposite reactions. They are making the public unhappy and making a fool of themselves and the whole world is seeing.

Not a surprising news. I think competition is going on in between Pak & Indian BJP govt in releasing the terrorists, anti nationals & separatists. We cannot deny the mutual understanding between Pak & Modi govt in this matter. Very soon the Pak & Indian terrorists will make tie up and trouble India. Good going Modiji. Ache din aagaye. Indian citizens are realized now that, who is anti nationals in this country.

@Puneeth, cool down brother. I know you are so frustrated and you cannot tolerate the criticism on Modi. You people trying to call Modi criticizers are anti nationals. But we true Indians cannot tolerate Modi's anti national stand anymore. Tell your Modi to re arrest Nasrat Alam and break the alliance with PDP. Otherwise BJP & its supporters will pay for it.

Dude,I'm with you on re-arresting "Nasrat Alam",and i don't support such things...What J&K govt has done is not acceptable and i expect BJP to pull down the govt by removing support to PDP...Or else it will lose many votes including mine in next LS election...

But the comments you usually write on every articles being anti-Modi is also not acceptable...I don't mind if you hate him,but never write comments just because you hate him...
