Bangladesh building collapse toll seven, search ends

Dhaka, March 13 (IANS): Search work ended on Friday at the site of an under-construction cement factory building which collapsed in Bangladesh's Bagerhat district, killing at least seven people.

Officials feared that over 50 construction workers were trapped “alive or dead” under the debris of the milling house of army-managed Mongla Cement Factory, while more than 50 others were injured, bdnews24.com reported.

Seven bodies were recovered from the site until Friday afternoon, officials said.

The roof of the four-storeyed building caved in on Thursday afternoon.

Rescuers had recovered six bodies in the first 12 hours.

The families of each deceased would be given 20,000 taka (about $250) and 10,000 taka to each injured worker as compensation.

Investigations have been launched into the incident.
