Modi salutes Indian soldiers killed in Sri Lanka

Colombo, March 13 (IANS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid homage to the nearly 1,200 Indian soldiers who died fighting the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka by visiting a memorial on Colombo's outskirts.

Modi went to the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) memorial during his two-day tour of the island nation, Xinhua reported.

The IPKF memorial was built by the Sri Lankan armed forces in the early 1990s to honour the fallen Indian soldiers when they were deployed in the island's north and east in 1987-90.
