Modi offers prayers in Sri Lanka


Colombo, March 14 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday offered prayers at the Mahabodhi tree in Anuradhapura city of Sri Lanka.

He arrived in Anuradhapura earlier in the day from Colombo.

"PM @narendramodi offering prayers," PMO India tweeted with a picture and video footage.

"Common reverence. PM @narendramodi & Prez Sirisena at Sri Mahabodhi tree in Anuradhapura," India's external affairs ministry tweeted.

He will also visit Jaffna.

Modi is the first Indian prime minister to make a bilateral visit to Sri Lanka after 1987.
