Puttur, Feb 9: Several students of Nellikatte higher primary school near here took ill after having their usual mid-day meal in the school on Thursday February 8 afternoon.
A total of 11 students had to be admitted to government hospital here after reported to be ill. Students were later discharged after necessary treatment in ICU.
There are 170 students who have their mid-day meal in the school everyday. Out of them more than 100 students are from nearby Ramakrishna Ashram. However, all students of Ramakrishna Ashram were absent for the meal on Thursday since there was some other celebration in the Ashram. Only 55-60 students were there for the meal.
Soon after the lunch 11 of them took to ill. While some of them vomited, others complained of stomach-ache. The school teachers and in-charge committee members took them and admitted to the government hospital here. They were treated by Dr Hema, the chief medical officer of the hospital.
Now the samples of the food have been sent to CFTRI laboratory at Mysore for testing. BEO Y Shivaramayya visited the hospital later and took stock of the situation.
