'CPI will not be part of Bihar grand alliance'

Patna, March 14 (IANS): In a setback to the grand alliance in Bihar, comprising the ruling JD-U, RJD and Congress, the Communist Party of India (CPI) made it clear that it would not be joining it to contest the state assembly polls later this year.

"The CPI would not become part of the grand alliance of the JD-U, RJD and Congress in Bihar to contest the next assembly polls," senior CPI leader U.N. Mishra said on Saturday, the third day of the 22nd state conference of the party in Darbhanga.

Mishra said the CPI has decided to change the current bipolar political situation in the state.

The Left parties will make it a triangular contest in Bihar, he said.

He also said the three main left parties including the CPI, CPI(M) and CPI(ML) had contested the assembly bypolls in the state last year.

"We will strive to bring all left parties together to take on the communal BJP," he said.
