Kolar, Mar 15: In an incident which occurred at Kamadhenuhalli in the taluk on Saturday March 14, a soldier, frustrated by family tensions, killed his wife and two children, before ending his own life.

Gangappa (35), his wife, Geetha (24), and their children, Neha (5) and Priyatham (2), lost their lives in this incident. Gangappa fed poison to his wife and children before tightening a rope around their necks. He then hanged himself from the ceiling.

Gangappa, who had joined military service in 2004, had married Geetha, who hailed from Keelukoppa near Bangarpet in the district, seven years back. For the purpose of looking after his aged parents, he had left behind his wife and children at his native place. Gangappa used to visit his family once in six months.

Recently he had taken up house construction here. The house was proposed to be inaugurated soon. However, before that, on account of family-related tensions, Gangappa grew wild and took this extreme step.

In a complaint filed in the rural police station here, Gangappa's parents and brothers said that Gangappa had taken this measure as he suspected the character of his wife. However, Geetha's relatives have expressed anguish and resentment at this allegation. In view of mounting tension, police personnel have been posted in the village to avoid any untoward incidents in the aftermath of this tragedy.
