Joint forces clash with Boko Haram in Nigeria

Abuja, March 16 (IANS): Nigerian army and troops from neighbouring countries were fighting Boko Haram gunmen to retake the strategic border town of Damasak, security source said Sunday.

A security source said that the battle was being waged by Nigerian troops in conjunction with the Multinational Joint Task Force, which is comprised of Chadian, Nigerien, and Nigerian armed forces, Xinhua reported.

Damasak, an agricultural town near Niger, was seized by the militant group in 2014 when its members attacked border areas in Borno state, leaving more than 50 people dead.
