Mangalore, Feb 10: Releasing a booklet on Right to Information Act, deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao said that the utmost care would be taken to empower the Adivasi Koraga community to access information which is beneficial to them.

The book has jointly been drafted and published by district administration and Information and Publicity department.  The particular aim of the book has been to spread awareness on RTI among the members of Koraga community.

Speaking on the occasion deputy commissioner said that he would look into the matter of providing accurate records of the land where Koraga families reside at present.  At the same time he advised the community members to educate their children so that they are aware of the facilities and various schemes set aside for them by the government.

Meanwhile the community members said that since the community was treated far inferior and trampled upon in the past, they did not have any access to any of the schemes.  "We could not walk up to any government department and demand for our benefits fearing that we would be insulted by the officials.  It took years for us to overcome this inferiority complex.  Today owing to education and help of the society, we are confident and well-organized to face our life," they said.

Ramalinge Gowda and Rohini of the information department were also present on the occasion.
