AI receives compensation for B-787 delivery delays: Minister

New Delhi, March 16 (IANS): The government said on Monday that flag carrier Air India has received compensation for delays in the delivery of Boeing 787 aircraft from its manufacturer.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma told the Lok Sabha during question hour that Air India has received compensation from Boeing on mutually accepted terms.

The deliveries were delayed by about four years due to production problems experienced by Boeing.

According to the minister, Boeing has not complied with its guarantees on the fuel burn performance of the aircraft due to significant delay in deliveries and changes in design specification.

"Issues of compensation have been taken up with Boeing by Air India. The B-787 aircraft, however, has given a better fuel burn as compared to similar type of aircraft, which has resulted in considerable savings in fuel cost," the minister said in a written reply.
