Sunderland fires coach Poyet


London, March 17 (IANS): Premier League club Sunderland has sacked coach Gus Poyet after the Uruguayan was in charge of the club for less than 18 months.

Sunderland now stands in 17th place on 26 points with nine games to go. The team just won four of its 29 league games, the same as fellow relegation zone struggler and last-place Leicester, reports Xinhua.

Former Netherlands coach Dick Advocaat, 67, was appointed as the interim head until the end of the season.
