Mangalore, Feb 12: The prestigious annual, state-level Sandesha awards were presented to achievers in various fields for their contribution to the society, at a solemn function held on the Sandesh lawns on Monday, February 12 evening.
The awardees were:

Sandesha Literature Award (Konkani) Victor Rodrigues, Angelore
Sandesha Literature Award (Tulu) Bannanje Babu Amin, Udupi
Sandesha Arts Award Guddappa Jogi Hosur, Sagara
Sandesha Journalism Award Dr G Ramakrishna, editor, Hoasathu, Bangalore
Sandesha Cinema/TV Award B S Dwarakeesh Hunsur
Sandesha Media Education Award Kinnara Mela, Tumri, headed by K G Krishnamurthy
Sandesha Education Award Harekala Hajabba, Harekala

After the invocation song and dance, Sandesha director Fr Francis Lewis welcomed the gathering. Western range IGP H N Satyanarayana Rao and city mayor Vijaya Arun were chief guests on the occasion. Head of the panel of Jury Dr Na D'Souza, Bishop Aloysius D'Souza who presided over the function, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president Seetaram Kulal, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario, director Fr Lewis, manager Leo D'Souza, trustees P M Castelino and Galdin D'Souza were on the dais.
Jury panel head Na D'Souza spoke on the ethos of the award and selection of awardees, which was followed by presentation. IGP Satyanarayana Rao did the honours. After the IGP and mayor's messages, Judith Mascarenhas and Kannada actor B S Dwarakish spoke on behalf of the awardees.
Later the Bishop gave his presidential address. The Jury were honoured by the president. The organizing team was honoured by the presidents of the Tulu and Konkani academies. The president also presented mementoes to the chief guests and the guests of honour.
A vote of thanks was given by trustee Galdin D'Souza, which was followed a cultural programme by selected awardees and students of the Sandesha Lalitkala Maha Vidyalaya. Senior journalist Manohar Prasad compered the programme.
