Three killed in truck bombing near Iraq-Kuwait border

Baghdad, March 18 (IANS): At least three people were killed and seven wounded on Wednesday in a truck bomb explosion near the Iraq-Kuwait border in Iraq's southern province of Basra, a security source said.

The attack took place in the morning when the booby-trapped truck exploded near a drinking water facility on the road linking the towns of Um Qasr and the border town of Safwan, the source told Xinhua news agency on condition of anonymity.

Iraqi security forces sealed off the venue, the source said.

The water facility is usually full of trucks loaded with goods coming and going from Iraqi and Kuwaiti ports, the source added.

Iraq is witnessing some of the worst violence in years. Terrorist attacks killed at least 12,282 civilians and injured 23,126 in 2014, making it the deadliest year since the sectarian violence between 2006 and 2007, according to a UN report.
