Swedish firm proposes power production from garbage in Hyderabad


Hyderabad, March 18 (IANS): A Swedish company has proposed to establish plants in Telangana to produce power from garbage and organic waste.

Business & Green Technology Promotion said an estimated 4,500 tonnes of garbage and organic waste could be collected in Hyderabad out of which 108 MW of power could be produced at the rate of 36 MW for every 1,500 tonnes.

Company officials said that from the same garbage and organic waste, bio-diesel and biogas may also be produced which can be used in garbage-collecting vehicles, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

The delegation told Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao that the Asian Development Bank was likely to finance this type of projects.

The chief minister said he would examine the proposal in detail.

The delegation included the company's managing director Raman Nagarajan along with consultant Daina Millers Dalsio and waste management expert Towe Ireblad.
