Udupi, Feb 14: Nagarjuna Company has signed an MoU with Mumbai-based Jayashreekrishna Parisara Samiti with regard to the setting up of thermal plant at Nandikur near Padubidri.
This was announced in a press conference here by Jaya Shreekrishna Parisara Samiti president Vishwanath Mada on Tuesday February 13.
He said that the Samiti has demanded Nagarjuna to give 60% job opportunities to the locals in the proposed project. So too the company has agreed to sell electricity to other states only after meeting the needs of the district.
Samiti has said that it has appealed the company to use the best quality of coal for the project and establish special machinery to neutralize sulphur. Cent percent of the flying ash should be made use of within 9 years of setting up of the project. As per the MoU, Nagarjuna is asked to plant 2 lac saplings within 5 years.
Samiti members Felix D'Souza, Rons Bantwal, Prof Shankar, Karunakar Kaup were also present at the press conference.
