Chamarajanagara, Mar 20: In a chilling incident which occurred in a banana plantation in Santhemarahalli in the taluk on Thursday March 19, plantation owner's brother beheaded two dalit labourers hired for weeding work.

The labourers who lost their lives are Krishnaiah (50), a resident of Deshavalli, and Nanjaiah (55) from Kavudawadi village. Mahadeva from Deshavalli, who happens to be the brother of Nagaraju, who owns the plantation, has been arrested for this crime.

It is gathered that Mahadeva's elder brother, Nagaraju, had brought both the labourers to his plantation and engaged him for weeding of the plantation. In the afternoon, Mahadeva asked the labourers to do some other work, at which the labourers refused, saying that they would do the work entrusted to them by his elder brother. Mahadeva turned mad with anger at this response, and cut off the heads of both the labourers with a sickle instantly. He then packed both the skulls in a gunny bag and threw the bag in a secluded corner, it is gathered.

People from nearby fields, who heard wails let out by the victims, informed the police. The police went to the spot, questioned Mahadeva, and arrested him. Further investigation is in progress.
