Kolkata, March 20 (IANS): One more death due to swine flu was recorded in West Bengal, taking the total figure for the state to 24, a health official said on Friday.
"The death toll is now 24. Fourteen fresh cases were detected since Thursday. The total number of cases is now 406," Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Malay Kumar De told IANS.
He said the private hospital which was barred from testing suspected samples for a day (Friday) due to "anomalies" is still under the scanner.
"We have extended the suspension till Saturday," said De.
Apart from National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, two private hospitals are being allowed to conduct tests for the HINI virus.
"We found that apparently one of them was diagnosing patients for swine flu when there wasn't such a case," De said, adding a third private hospital has been permitted to run tests from Thursday.
