Centre seeks states' cooperation to implement Sports Code


New Delhi, March 21 (IANS): Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday urged the state governments to help the Centre in bringing transparency and accountability in sports by implementing the Sports Code.

He said the ministry has taken several initiatives to keep sports free from controversies and corruption and requested the states/Union Territories to implement these initiatives.

He also said his ministry is working on a bill to prevent fraud in sports in an effort to keep it corruption free.

Sonowal was speaking at the concluding session of the conference of ministers of states/Union Territories in-charge of youth affairs and sports here.
