I-League: Sporting rally to hold East Bengal 2-2

Kolkata, March 21 (IANS): Two late goals from visitors Sporting Clube de Goa earned them a hard fought 2-2 draw against East Bengal in an I-League encounter at the Salt Lake stadium here on Saturday.

East Bengal were 2-0 up after the hour mark as their Nigerian striker Ranti Martins scored a brace to put his side on the driving seat. However, Trinidadian forward Anthony Wolfe scored twice in quick succession to restore parity for Sporting.

Martins broke the deadlock in the 31st minute as he latched onto a hopeful aerial ball from Australian defender Milan Susak to skip past Rojen Singh, his marker and smash it into the net.

After the breather, Martins added the second as he scored with a brilliantly-taken free-kick in the 60th minute after midfielder Shylo Malsawmtluanga was fouled near the edge of the penalty area.

Four minutes later in was Wolfe’s turn to steal the limelight as he found himself at the end of a header from Nigerian forward Odafa Okolie and the former’s weak shot trickled over the goal-line.

At the 77th minute Wolfe was in the hunt again. He stitched together neat passes in the midfield and then ran into the box, latched onto a ball from midfielder Victorino Fernandes and poked it in the net.
