Mangalore, Feb 18: The elephant calf which was found injured in the Ghat and was brought to Pilikula Nisargadhama for treatment died on Sunday at 4.30 pm.
According to a press release, the quadruped was found deserted by its mother in the Charmadi Ghat region. Few locals who found it entrusted it to the care of the Nisargadhama.
The calf which was found on February 2 was just 15 day old and had maggots in the wounds on its body. Its eye was also injured. However with the treatment given by Dr D G Shenav, Dr Manohar Upadyaya and Dr Ashok Kumar, it was found active.
The release also stated that the calf was fed with fat free cow milk and also given vitamin medicine. However, on February 16, it was sick again and it was found to be suffering from gastrointestinal disease which led to its death.
