Bantwal, Feb 19: Three persons drowned in two separate tragedies near Vittal here on Sunday February 19 afternoon.
While Raghunath Shetty's son Mokshit (20) and Yashwanth Shetty's son Sushanth (11) met watery grave in a pond at Kelinja, Rajesh (18) son of Purandara Bhandary (18) drowned at Bobbakeri.
Sushanth and Mokshit had gone to a pond at Madadar near Kelinja to learn swimming. As they were returning after bath, Sushanth slipped and fell in the pond. At this point Mokshit jumped into the pond to rescue him. But both drowned together.
Mokshit who owned a grocery shop at Kelinja had been going to the same pond for a few days now to learn swimming with the help of a tube. Even on Sunday he had been to the pond to learn swimming when Sushanth who was playing in the nearby place saw him. He came close to the pond to watch Mokshit. But suddenly he slipped and fell into the pond. Seeing him shout for help Mokshit tried to rescue him. Since he too did not know to swim, both of them drowned. Though the locals fished them out immediately, by then the duo had breathed their last.
At Bobbakeri Rajesh had gone to the pond to wash a tender coconut which was soiled. However, he accidentally slipped and fell in the pond. Since he did not know to swim, he could not come out of the water. Since no was there in the nearby vicinity, the tragedy came to light only a little while later. The body was later removed from the pond by Puttur fire brigade personnel.
The Vittal police have registered complaint in this regard.
