Bahrain's national carrier suspends flights to Yemen

Manama, March 26 (IANS): Bahrain's national carrier, Gulf Air, announced on Wednesday that it will suspend flights to Yemen because of "safety and security" concerns.

An airline statement that from Thursday, it would not operate flights to and from the Sanaa International Airport, reported Xinhua

Gulf Air said that it hoped to resume services to Sanaa as soon as operational conditions permitted.

Yemen has been mired in deep political conflict since the Houthi rebels seized power in early February, which worsened after the Yemeni president's flight to Aden.

More than a dozen countries have closed their embassies in Sanaa to protest the Houthi takeover and for security concerns.
