Beckham backs Beijing's 2022 Winter Olympics bid

Beijing, March 26 (IANS): English football icon David Beckham endorsed Beijing's bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics during his recent visit to China.

"If any country try to get an Olympic Games, it means their passion about hosting something very special and also really wants the world to take notice in the sport," said Beckham, who is the promotion ambassador of Chinese Super League, reports Xinhua.

"If China is doing that for 2022, I wish them good luck, something would be incredible because I know how passionate the people are in this country for life and for sport, so good luck."

Beckham has been named the ambassador of China's youngster football programme. He said he would share his experience with more Chinese teenagers.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission is on a five-day inspection here and will publish its report and distribute it to every IOC member prior to the voting between Beijing and Almaty which will take place in Kuala Lumpur on July 31.
