Ajman - Feb. 21: His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman met officials from Harvard Medical School Dubai Center yesterday. Prof. Robert Thurer, Chief Academic Officer, HMSDC, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi Chairman Economic Department, Government of Ajman, HE Sheikh Dr. Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman Ruler's Court Ajman, Mr. Thumbay Moideen President Gulf Medical College and officials from HMSDC were present in the meeting.

His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi was briefed about the Harvard services and facilities being offered in the UAE. Dr. Thurer explained about the research activities under taken by Harvard in the USA and UAE. His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi appreciated the role played by such international institutions and invited them to have more cooperation with local colleges like Gulf Medical College to enhance the standards of training. Dr. Thurer informed His Highness that they are looking forward to a long term association with Gulf Medical College and appreciated the standard of students at the college.

The meeting was arranged by the Gulf Medical College which entered into a tie-up with Harvard Medical School Dubai Center to hold joint seminars during March and April 2007.

HMSDC and GMC will organize a series of scientific events during March and April. The Medical Grand Rounds will consist of  three events with experts from Harvard Medical International, Boston USA, HMSDC and other faculty identified and selected by HMSDC who will deliver state-of –the – art lectures on  medical and healthcare issues. Topics include Pediatric Infections, Global Issues in Prevention and Care for People with HIV/AIDS, Medical Education 2007: Where are we headed?" and a day-long seminar titled "Current Issues in Respiratory Disease," covering Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, CT Screening for Lung Cancer and Evaluation and Management of Dyspnea.

Robert L. Thurer, MD, Chief Academic Officer of HMSDC commented, "We are pleased to work with our friends and colleagues at Gulf Medical College to bring outstanding educational programs to the region."

All the events are accredited by the HMSDC and certificates with a maximum of 9 CME hours for all three seminars will be presented to the participants by HMSDC. The events will be held at Gulf Medical College Ajman, Radisson SAS Hotel Deira Dubai, and Radisson SAS Resort Sharjah.

The Conference Secretariat at Gulf Medical College has been in the forefront of organizing CME over the last six years. They have organized over 30 conferences, seminars, symposiums and workshops involving local regional and international experts.
