Mumbai, March 28 (MD): The Trombay police are on the lookout for driver Amar Singh (in pic), working with Logicash a cash management service provider firm, after he fled with one of its van consisting Rs1.28 crore yesterday.
The incident occurred around 2.30 pm, at a time when four other employees were loading cash into a Central Bank of India ATM at Trombay on the Sion-Panvel Highway. Cops said Singh hails from Uttar Pradesh.
He was ferrying two junior custodians, a trainee custodian and an unarmed guard. Senior Logicash employee Kaka Sawant said, “After reaching the ATM centre, the other four got off the vehicle with Rs 16 lakh to refill the machine.
The van originally had Rs 1.44 crore when it left the office.” He added that since the vehicle was parked right outside the ATM centre, its guard asked Singh to park it further down the road. But instead of parking it a little ahead of the ATM centre, he (Singh) fled with the van. The abandoned vehicle was found in Matunga.
DCP (Zone VII) Vinay Kumar Rathod, temporary Zone VI in-charge, said, “The accused fled with the cash, leaving behind the empty van. We are trying to trace him and several teams have been despatched to nab him.”
