Mangalore, Feb 23: The city’s port has become the only port in the country through which areca can be imported, according to an amendment introduced in the Import Policy of the Union government.
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday February 22, district in-charge minister Nagraj Shetty informed that the move will solve the problem of uncontrolled flow of areca into the country from other nations which has been a cause of worry to areca growers.
He further said that the move was a result of the meeting between a delegation headed by him and consisting of representatives of several organisations and union minister for commerce and industry recently.
