Mangaluru, Mar 31: Forum of Christians United Services has requested chairman of Karnataka state backward classes commission, Kantaraju, to provide for identifying sub-castes of Christians, i.e., Roman Catholics and Protestants, in the proforma prepared by the state government to conduct caste-based census.

A request was submitted as above by the organization through Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner. A delegation of the forum led by Sushil Noronha handed over the plea to the tahsildar of Mangaluru taluk in the absence of district deputy commissioner on Monday March 30.

President of the forum, M D'Souza, secretary,John D'Souza, members, Roshan Basil Rodrigues, Alwin Manohar, Pius, Ashok, and others were present.

They said that provision had been made in the said format to note down castes and sub-castes including over 50 sub-castes among Christians. However, a mistake has been committed in not providing proper space for mentioning Roman Catholics and Protestants who are in considerable numbers.

Census of Christians ? This is a welcome move, very innovative one. The purpose should, rather, be for a different reason. To caste away the blame of conversion.

All denominations should undertake census and prove the numbers and any addition will automatically come with a source (biological). This is very much required to silence the voices justifying the attacks on Christianity !
