Udupi, Feb 24: Dilip Devadiga (30), an accused in several instances of communal riots was arrested by DCIB police led by inspector E Thimmayya near the service bus stand here on Thursday February 22.

Dilip was facing enquiry in at least 6 cases with regard to recent communal riots that rocked Mulki, a few cases in Padubidri, Manipal and Shirva stations other than a case in connection with an assault in the town police station. 

A case in connection with the illegal possession of arms in Padubidri station was filed quite a few years ago. Over the years he was booked in several cases in different police stations in the district prominent among them was with regard to the murder of one Umed Hussein in the Shirva police station limits.  Dilip along with his accomplices had assaulted owing to which he had died.  Later they had thrown his body in Shirady Ghat area.  Dilip was put behind bars but the case did not stand for long as he was acquitted owing to lack of witnesses.

But he was always at large and police could not nab him all this long.  But he was spotted during the violence that rocked Mulki after the murder of BJP leader Sukhanand Shetty.  On Wednesday he was tryig to board a bus in service bus stand when the police arrested him.
