Bengaluru, Mar 31: The Siddaramaiah government’s hasty move to enhance the annual income limit from the present Rs 2 lakh to Rs 25 lakh from sources other than agricultural lands to acquire any land being dropped.

The State government on Tuesday withdrew the Karnataka Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2015 that sought to enhance the annual income limit from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 25 lakh from sources other than agricultural lands to acquire any land.

Revenue Minister V Srinivasa Prasad told the Legislative Assembly that the bill in the current form was withdrawn and a modified Bill would be introduced in the next legislature session.

He said the State Government decided to withdraw the Bill following objections raised by members cutting across the party lines on the adverse implications of the proposed amendment to the original Bill.

“I am convinced about the need for a detailed debate about the proposed bill as the amendment would have far reaching consequences. As Tuesday is the last day of the ongoing Budget session, there is very little time to discuss the bill,’’ he said

“It is a revolutionary Bill and it should be debated thoroughly," he said.
