Ajman, UAE, Feb 24: The first Annual GMC Healthy Baby Contest drew a large participation from expatriate and local children from all over the UAE. Over 200 babies in the age groups 3 months to 3 years took part in the contest, which was held at the Gulf Medical College Ajman on Friday 23rd Feb. The theme – Know Your Child Better – was an attempt to educate the parents on the long and tough journey of parenting and bringing up a healthy child.

The contestants were judged based on many parameters including growth, immunization, milestones and the babies’ responses. Even parents were tested about their knowledge on parenting. An expert panel of judges comprised of pediatricians from GMC Hospital and Gulf Medical Center Dubai. According to one of the judges, expatriates and local kids are growing very well and there is a fairly good knowledge amongst parents about of vaccination and first aid at home. The judges explained about the good eating habits to be developed for the babies. Representatives from Supreme Council for Family Affairs Sharjah educated some of the parents on the importance of breast feeding.

"We are delighted at this tremendous response to the first-ever Annual Healthy Baby Contest 2007, which was organized by GMC Hospital, Ajman," said GMC Hospital president Thumbay Moideen.

Over the years the GMC group has been involved in organizing many events for healthcare professionals as well as for general public by holding conferences and health camps. But this is the first time that competition for infants and small babies was held.
 
The contest became a success on account of the strong support of the sponsors: Emirates Parent plus Magazine, Milupa, Abott Nutrition, Sharjah American International School, NMC, Bebelac, Mustela, Al Rawabi, KDD, Mr. Krisps, Body and Soul Health Club, Blends and Brews Coffee Shop and Thumbay Group.

Following were declared winners in different categories: (A-3 months to 1 Year, B - 1 Year to 2 years, C - 2 Years to 3 Years)

A119      Winner: Midhat Zehra

B 28       Winner: Kavan Mehta

C40        Winner: Dhanishta

Prizes were also given in other categories like Sparkling Eyes, Sunshine Smile, Active Baby, Curly Hair, and Chubby Cheeks.
