Mangalore, Feb 24: An accidental fire that broke out at Pavoor Ulliya island near here charred acres of reeds on Friday February 23 evening.

Though nothing is yet sure, it is said that it was an accidental fire that resulted in huge flames engulfing the dry reeds within few hours.  Fire broke out late in the evening.  Since it is an island, it was still difficult to overpower fire.  No fire engines could be summoned.

However no loss to life was reported in the tragedy.  There are about 50 families living on the island.  But the human habitat is at a distance from the place of fire tragedy.  One of the islanders speaking to Daijiworld said that fire might have been result owing to some spark that spread from cigarette or beedi.
