Two Bodo militants killed in Assam

Guwahati, April 1 (IANS): Two hardcore Bodo militants were killed in a joint operation by security forces in Assam's Sonitpur district, an official said on Wednesday.

Based on intelligence inputs that militants were taking shelter in the area, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Assam Police carried out an operation leading to a fierce gun battle on Tuesday night, Guwahati-based defence spokesperson Lt. Col. Suneet Newton said in a statement.

The slain militants were a 'battalion commander' and a 'section commander' of the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), he said.

One AK-47 rifle, two pistols and two hand grenades were recovered from them.

Police said the two were involved in the massacre of Adivasis in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts on December 23 last year, that left over 70 people dead.
